So...how did I stumble upon this movie?

Many many years ago I used to be in contact with a certain user who just so happened to own a bunch of rare Japanese OSTs on vinyl and offered to sell them to me. Among one of them was the soundtrack to Kizudarake no Kunshou, which I bought a copy of long ago.

The cover image—which depicts two of the MCs walking across the Egyptian desert—caught my interest at first. Old JP movies, to my knowledge, hardly were filmed outside of Japan. Yet, there seemingly was this 80s movie...filmed in EGYPT of all places?? Count me in!!

Unfortunately at the time, I didn't have much luck—my research at the time showed that this movie only had a VHS & LD release, both of which are really rare...so, even though I wanted to know more about the movie, I couldn't do much due to its rarity at the time and I couldn't be bothered to continuously search up copies every once in a while due to laziness.

I re-visited the OST again some time ago and later found out that this was finally remastered in HD via Amazon Prime! So I had someone rip it for me, and the rest is history...

Overall? This is a good movie! Lots of plot twists that are executed just well and with a synth OST that, surprisingly, REALLY fits the movie. Lots of unreleased BGM though... 😥

Anyways, enjoy!

  1. Cool to see a translation for a Japanese movie I've never heard of, I'll be watching that one. As far as '80s Japanese movies filmed overseas, it's not completely unheard of but it's definitely rare. Antarctica takes place where you would think it does, and there's a few attempts at big co-productions with the US, like Virus, partly shot in the US or Canada. The closest to Egypt I can think of is the '73 Golgo 13 movie, shot in Iran before the revolution. It's pretty cool actually. In the '60s there were a few movies shot in Australia (like the Western Drifting Avenger).
